Food Food — a blog title, a place, and my favorite stuff — all wrapped up
27 05 2007Karla recently posted the perfect meme for me, especially in May (haven’t cooked in days):
FIVE LOCAL PLACES TO EAT MEME:
1. Food Food — not only close, but truly yummy and nutricious. Plus it makes everyone in the family happy.
2. Nuevo Leon — my hands-down favorite. I built the Littlest on their food. My Wednesday night trips have been curtailed by all the athletics, but someday soon (way too soon actually — I do not want the babies to leave the house) I will once again be found every Wednesday night in Neto’s section. Fat and happy.
3. 34th Street Cafe — the best fried oysters around, with awesome waiters and a great wine list. Plus it’s owned by an old friend. The http://lifeitself.wordpress.com/2006/11/20/random-slothfulness/.
4. El Patio — where I’ve blissfully clogged my arteries for twenty-six years.
5. The Hoffbrau — my daddy’s favorite. It opened when he was eight, and the whole family fell in love. Seventy-three years later, we are still asking for extra lemon-butter sauce. But the waitresses no longer beat you up.
So looking at my list of five, it’s quite obvious why there is so much of me. Dang. Do skinny people live without steaks and Mexican food? (Although in the interest of full disclosure I admit to being a skinny person for the first 35 years of my life — then my thyroid went south. Sadly, it has not returned.)
I’m supposed to list the other people who have done this meme, add my name to the bottom of the list, then tag five people so that they do the same. So here’s the list of previous players:
Velverse (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)
LB (San Giovanni in Marignano, Italy)
Selba (Jakarta, Indonesia)
Olivia (London, England)
ML (Utah, USA)
J (California, USA)
CuriosityKiller (Hong Kong, SAR)
Shelli (Minnesota, USA)
Bluepaintred (Saskatchewan, Canada)
Avitable (Florida, USA)
Diana (Singapore, Singapore)
Karla the Texpatriate(Oslo, Norway)
Amamgets (Austin, TX)
So as to the tagging component, here goes:
SaucyMomma, Austin.
MonkMan, Beerville
You folk out there who read but do not blog — come join the merry band
Does this mean I need to start blogging again?! I guess I could start with a Food Meme. I actually dreamed I was blogging the other night….maybe it’s time to dust out the kitchen pantry over at the Schell Cafe!?!??!
This meme sounds like a fun one to join in on uninvited: let’s see: in alphabetical order: they are local places to eat in different places which I’ve considered local on occasion. Well, except for the Mustard Seed, but I was introduced to it by locals there, and it is so amazing and it is a local joint.
Fat Matt’s Rib Shack, Atlanta, GA, US (amazing ribs)
Fusion, Woodstock, NB, Canada (eclectic, funky, no set menu, stellar food, stunning service, very reasonable prices, cheesecake to ask for the recipe for)
Mirror of Korea, Atlanta, GA, US (family-run Korean restaurant: delicious and relaxed)
The Mustard Seed, Charleston (actually Mount Pleasant), SC (fantastic hole-in-the-wall fusion restaurant)
Nami’s in Anderson SC, US (marvelous Japanese food)
If you are anywhere in the vicinity of any of these, get to them!
